Elle est une Torrey... et plus je retiendrai ma colère, plus il me sera difficile de la briser et d'atteindre celui qui m'a infligé la pire des souffrances !

Paris, octobre 1307. En deux siècles d'existence, l'ordre du Temple a accumulé puissance, gloire et richesse. Temple et temples dans le Judaïsme antique
Depuis deux millénaires, le judaïsme rabbinique a façonné une image idéalisée d'un temple, pour un dieu et un peuple, propre à renforcer la cohésion et l'unité d'une communauté déchirée par les heurts des premier et second siècles de notre ère. Ceci ne reflète pourtant ni la richesse et la complexité du judaïsme antique, ni la pluralité des manières d'être, de se sentir, et de montrer son appartenance. Plusieurs temples furent ainsi construits alors même que celui de Jérusalem était en service, par des communautés se réclamant du même dieu, celui d'Israël. En Egypte, à Eléphantine par des soldats-agriculteurs, à Léontopolis par un grand prêtre exilé ; sur le Garizim, près de Naplouse, par les Samaritains, bien avant leur séparation d'avec le judaïsme de Jérusalem. Aux différents lieux et époques répondent la même construction, en contradiction formelle avec les prescriptions bibliques, et la relative tolérance des autorités de la capitale. Loin d'être aussi marginales qu'on put le penser, ces trois aventures éclairent un vécu religieux ; leur réexamen, et une large synthèse tentant d'en comprendre les motivations, aideront tant les spécialistes que les lecteurs curieux de ce judaïsme si loin et pourtant si proche.

Exploration archéologique de Délos. Tome 46, L'Artémision Tome I, L'histoire des fouilles et le temple hellénistique
Le principal sanctuaire d'Artémis de Délos est associé à celui d'Apollon. Th. Homolle y entreprit des fouilles en 1878 mettant au jour deux temples imbriqués, un autel, un portique coudé et un ensemble de sculptures archaïques comprenant plusieurs korès. Ses travaux furent poursuivis par F. Courby, qui comprit que le temple archaïque était conservé dans le temple hellénistique, et par R. Vallois, qui fut le premier à définir les limites de l'Artémision et à en écarter l'édifice dans lequel fut par la suite reconnu le Pythion. Il découvrit dans le pronaos du temple hellénistique un mobilier exceptionnel daté entre l'époque mycénienne et la seconde moitié du VIIIe s. Les grandes étapes de cette exploration de l'Artémision, qui s'est poursuivie jusqu'à nos jours, sont retracées dans la première partie de l'ouvrage, qui contient aussi le corpus des testimonia littéraires et épigraphiques relatifs au sanctuaire et une présentation de toutes ses composantes. La seconde partie est consacrée au temple hellénistique. Elle commence par une description des fondations et de l'euthyntéria conservées en place et se poursuit par celle des vestiges erratiques qui peuvent être restitués à l'élévation. La krépis, le toichobate, les colonnes, les antes, les murs, l'entablement, les frontons et la couverture sont successivement présentés. Leur analyse fonde la restitution du monument, un édifice hexastyle prostyle ionique dont toute l'élévation était en marbre cycladique. L'intérieur du naos était sans doute orné de colonnes engagées. La construction, qui s'est principalement déroulée entre 190 et 180, fut compliquée à la fois par l'existence de monuments jouxtant le nouveau temple et par la volonté de conserver intact, pendant la première phase du chantier, le naos du temple archaïque, englobé dans la construction hellénistique. L'édifice s'inscrit à la fois dans la lignée des temples athéniens ioniques prostyles hexastyles et dans la koinè hellénistique qui, sans être uniforme, prend le pas au début du IIe s. sur les spécificités du style développé par les Déliens de la fin du IVe et à la fin du IIIe s. av. J. -C. The main sanctuary of Artemis at Delos is associated with that of Apollo. In 1878, Th. It begins with a description of the foundations and the euthynteria that remain in place, and goes on to describe the various remains that can be attributed to the elevation. The crepidoma, the toichobate, the columns, the antae, the walls, the entablature, the pediments and the roof are all presented one after the other. Their analysis forms the basis for the restitution of the monument, a hexastyle, prostyle, ionic edifice that was built in Cycladic marble. The interior of the naos was most likely decorated with engaged columns. The construction process, which took place mainly between 190 and 180 BC, was hampered by the monuments that adjoined the new temple and by the attempts, during the first phase of the construction process, to preserve the naos of the ancient temple, incorporated into the Hellenistic building. The edifice is very much in line with the Athenian ionic, prostyle, hexastyle temples and the koinè Hellenistic style that emerged at the start of the 2nd century, and to a certain extent, took over from the specific style developed by the Delians that emerged at the end of the 4th and went on until the end of the 3rd century BC.

Laurence Ink ne décrit pas un pays, ni un peuple : elle évoque une âme. Et elle fait rentrer son écriture en résonance avec cette âme pour que le lecteur à son tour en perçoive quelque chose. Ses textes sont justes parce qu'ils sont humbles. Ils assument le non-dit, ils manient l'ellipse, l'allusion et la suggestion pour établir une sorte de relevé émotionnel de l'Île rouge. C'est en les relisant, en les méditant, en les laissant épaissir dans le souvenir que peu à peu on prend leur mesure.

The discovery of magic
Queen Vispa and King Dungammei are the beloved rulers of their respective kingdoms. The two territories live in harmony, sharing a temple that crosses their mutual border, but they pray to different gods and have little in common outside of geography. The monarchs seem an unlikely pair, but when each violates the rules of the temple - one by entering the temple as a woman, and the other by praying to the other kingdom's god - both find themselves abandoned by their people, deciding soon after to declare the approval and presence of both gods in their hearts, as well as their love for each other. The King and Queen's subjects also abandon the shared temple, leaving it to the disobedient pair and building separate temples in their own territories. The monarchs' happy life together is, however, short-lived, as Queen Vispa dies upon giving birth to their child Delarai. The King is urged to repent and return to his kingdom. He complies, leaving princess Delarai with Magi, a nurse from a remote village, to raise her. Delarai rows up in near isolation, far from other people, spending most of her time among flowers and animals of the beautiful temple garden. Meanwhile, battles rage between the two kingdoms following the King's return. Delaware, a son begotten to the King and his next wife, gets badly wounded some years later in an attempt to stop the fighting. On his deathbed, the Prince insists on being taken to the forbidden temple to be buried there. The King, though ill himself, agrees to fulfill his son's dying wish. It is there where Delarai, having become quite an expert at herbal remedies, comes to their aid, preparing a special potion while praying to the temple's two gods in her nurse Magi's native language. As Delarai completes the life-saving act of curing the Prince, she tries to call for Magi, but the word that leaves her lips is "magic". Those who witness the event soon spread the word, and Delarai becomes recognized across both kingdoms as the creator of magic. The King, however, succumbs to old age, imparting his last kernel of wisdom unto his daughter : the two temple gods are one and the same. With this knowledge and their newfound inner strength, Delarai and Delaware unify the two kingdoms, and live happily ever after.

Hilma af Klint. The Five Notebook 1
In 1896, Hilma af Klint and four other like-minded women artists left the Edelweiss Society and founded the "Friday Group", also known as "The Five". They met every Friday for spiritual meetings, including prayers, studies of the New Testament, meditation and séances. The medium exercised automatic writing and mediumistic drawing. Eventually they established contact with spiritual beings whom they called "The High Ones". In 1896, the five women began taking meticulous notes of the mediumistic messages conveyed by the spirits. In time, Hilma af Klint felt she had been selected for more important messages. After ten years of esoteric training with "The Five", aged 43, Hilma af Klint accepted a major assignment, the execution of The Paintings for the Temple. This commission, which engaged the artist from 1906 to 1915, changed the course of her life. In 1908, Rudolf Steiner, leader of the German Theosophical Society, held several lectures in Stockholm. He also visited af Klint's studio and saw some of the early Paintings for the Temple. In 1913, Steiner founded the Anthroposophical Society, which af Klint joined in 1920 and remained a member for the rest of her life.

The Biblical Vision of the Human Person
Although modern study of the Bible has made impressive philological advances, it lacks an adequate philosophical frame of reference that would link the symbolism of the Biblical narrative to the problems of human existence. The present work sets out to provide the germ of a philosophy of language and human consciousness that would serve as a basis for a proper exegesis of the Biblical text. Part One establishes the historical, philosophical and hermeneutical framework by examining the link between experience, symbolization and the structure of human consciousness as elaborated historically in myth and philosophy. Part Two applies this framework to representative anthropological texts from the Old and New Testaments in order to forge a link between the Biblical symbolism and the fundamental problems of human existence. Part Three draws attention to the implications of the inquiry for a philosophical anthropology and a more comprehensive hermeneutical framework.

Dogs is a kennel of 200 drawings made by Jochen Gerner between 2021 and 2023, following his study of birds. The Sagho djebel is the eastern extension of the Anti-Atlas, a volcanic mountain with granitic mamelons, basaltic organs, chaos of black shales, pink sandstones... at the gates of the Sahara. As far as the eye can see, large wild, arid spaces. A desolate land made for the lonely DPM. And for a thousand miles around, silence is the only companion. Absolute plenitude and the desire to take to the track. From flat expanses to rolling hills, from sharp relief to steep canyons : pure, original nature. The character is strong, rustic but the heart is soft. The colours are soft and gentle. Ochre, pink, brown, violet, the colour chart stretches in a gradation of shimmering pastels, sometimes accompanied by an overwhelming heat. Eldorado in the heart of the desert, rare are the oases ; modest green spots in the infinitely large, they are the reminders that we are on African soil. The wild charm of the Sagho is due to its exceptional geology : high cliffs and steep peaks, tabular escarpments and deep canyons in the middle of which caravans of camels and mules circulate. When you arrive on these immense plateaus, the lunar horizon is so vast that you want to go everywhere at once to see if it is really as beautiful elsewhere ! The Sagho also surprises by the richness of its lights : limpid like those of the nearby Sahara, or sometimes in half-tone, as in the neighbouring Dades valley. The Sagho is also the Morocco of the last Berber nomads, descendants of the ancient lords Aït Atta. In autumn, after leaving the snows of the High Atlas, they set up their dark wool tents on the slopes of the jebel until spring. They can neither read nor write, but they are sure of their way through the Atlas Mountains and the Moroccan desert. In the Sagho, they have built houses of unbaked stone, dug wells, planted almond trees, grown wheat, barley and various vegetables. Others built herds of goats and sheep, and caravans of camels. Le temple étrusque
Les conseillers municipaux d'une petite ville d'Italie dénuée de toute attraction touristique décident d'y faire élever un petit temple étrusque. Personne cependant ne sait à quoi peut ressembler un temple étrusque, et l'indispensable main-d'oeuvre étrusque fait manifestement défaut. Pressés de suivre les habitants de la ville que la canicule chasse, qui vers la mer et qui vers la montagne, les conseillers désigneront comme maître d'oeuvre un jeune postier venu réparer le téléphone, Atanassim, qui les convainc sans peine qu'Oscar, Astor et Ménius, trois nègres campant dans les bois proches, pourraient faire de très présentables Étrusques. Les travaux commencent dans la ville désertée. Atanassim multiplie sur le papier tous les dessins imaginables du futur monument, le trou s'approfondit, devient cratère, et, d'écroulement en écroulement, la ville est bientôt entièrement détruite... Composé de dix-huit rapides chapitres au centre desquels prend place une majestueuse paraphrase de l'Épopée de Gilgamesh, ce roman de Wilcock n'est rien de moins, sous la forme d'une sotie froidement délirante, qu'une tentative de mythologie de certains traits du monde actuel. On a souvent nommé Swift, Kafka ou Borges à propos de l'auteur. La démesure humoristique de ce dernier livre en même temps que la précision extrême d'un style narratif où le moindre détail surprend par son insolite justesse font également penser, cette fois, à Jarry aussi bien qu'à Raymond Roussel.

Le troisième temple
Le Troisième Temple, c'est celui qui doit être reconstruit à la fin des temps, quand le Messie arrivera, que les morts ressusciteront et que la paix la plus absolue régnera sur le monde. Telle est la croyance traditionnelle juive : un horizon d'utopie, un messianisme sous forme d'attente et de promesse. Inaugurant un genre qu'on pourrait qualifier d'anticipation biblique, et sous les atours du conte cauchemardesque, l'auteur du Poète de Gaza imagine la reconstruction de ce troisième temple, pour mieux en prophétiser la destruction. Dans un avenir au goût de retour en arrière, après l'éradication de la ville de Tel-Aviv par l'ennemi amalécite, le peuple d'Israël revient au Livre au pied de la lettre et court à sa perte. A travers le sidérant récit du fils infirme du roi, sourd aux avertissements d'un ange qu'il prend pour le diable, se joue l'éternel combat de la foi en Dieu et de la confiance en l'homme. Hypnotique dans sa restitution des rituels, saisissant dans le jusqu'au-boutisme de l'engrenage, Le Troisième Temple est une expérience de lecture extrême. Parce qu'une certaine frange minoritaire de la droite dure israélienne prône actuellement ce retour aux sources bibliques, parce qu'il n'exagère finalement rien et se contente de déplier l'utopie dans le détail, le roman de Yishaï Sarid, entre charge politique et démonstration par l'absurde, peut se lire comme l'avertissement inquiet d'un observateur contemporain dont la mémoire est le gouvernail.

«In the Interest of Democracy»
Until recently, there has been little concrete evidence linking the American Federation of Labor (AFL) to the U.S. government's Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in the late 1940s and early 1950s. In this book, based upon recently opened archival collections, the author investigates this controversial and complicated early Cold War relationship. Contrary to arguments that the AFL's international activities were entirely controlled by the U.S. government to the detriment of the independent international labor movement, or that the AFL acted on its own without government involvement to foster legitimate anti-communist trade unions, the author's examination of the archival sources reveals that the AFL and the CIA made an alliance of convenience based upon common goals and ideologies, which dissolved when the balance of power shifted away from the AFL and into the hands of the CIA. In addition to tracing the complicated historical threads which resulted in an apparently unlikely relationship, three specific examples of how the AFL worked with the CIA are investigated in this book : the development of the anti-communist trade union federation Force Ouvrière in France ; the AFL campaign against the Soviet Union's use of "slave labor" at the UN ; and labor's role in the activities of the National Committee for a Free Europe, including Radio Free Europe and the Free Trade Union Center in Exile.

The names of George Gershwin (1898-1937) and Ira Gershwin (1896-1983) are synonymous across the globe with American musical creativity. The Gershwin family estates, their publishers, and the University of Michigan have joined forces to produce The George and Ira Gershwin Critical Edition-the first-ever scholarly edition of the Gershwins' music and lyrics. This all-new practical edition facilitates both study and performance, giving a wide audience of musicians, scholars, students, and enthusiasts alike greater insight into the Gershwins' art. The goal is to create clear and definitive publications that achieve the most accurate representations possible of the Gershwin brothers' unique and pioneering creativity. This all-new critical edition of the original 1924 arrangement of George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue presents an authoritative transcription of arranger Ferde Grofé's handwritten holograph score preserved in the collection of the United States Library of Congress in Washington, DC. The edition represents as best as possible the piece as premiered by the Paul Whiteman Orchestra at his "Experiment in Modern Music" concert on February 12, 1924. Grofé prepared the score for the specific talents and timbres of the Whiteman Orchestra, largely from an ink fair copy of Gershwin's two-piano short-score manuscript. Gershwin continued to modify the piano solo portion of this short score during rehearsals and, most likely, even after the premiere of the piece. Instrumentation : 2 pianos
